Hi there, and welcome! I am so glad you found your way here.
Cape Ray Studio was born from a love of wild places, curiosity, and the kind of childhood wonder that makes you stop in your tracks to listen to the forest, the bog, the shore, or the sky. I am Elaine, and this little studio is where I get to bring those passions together through books, printable resources, and stories rooted in the natural world.
At its heart, Cape Ray Studio is about helping children (and the grown-ups who love them) connect with the world around them, from the rocky coastline to the boreal forest, the tuckamore and the tundra, the ponds and the bogs. There is so much life out there, and so many sounds to discover.
Meet the First Series: Squish, Squelch, Splash!
The very first book series to come out of Cape Ray Studio is Squish, Squelch, Splash! and it holds a very special place in my heart.
This series is a fun and playful way for children to learn about the amazing animals of Newfoundland and Labrador through the sounds that they make. From the squelch of a creature moving through a bog to the splash of something diving into a pond, the rustle in the underbrush or the call echoing across a barrens, every sound is a clue and an invitation to discover who made it.
Each book introduces young readers to the real animals that live across all the wild habitats of Newfoundland and Labrador, using sound as the thread that ties the adventure together. It is the kind of book that gets children listening more closely to the world around them and asking all the best questions, like "What was that?" and "Can we go find one?"
Whether your little one grew up roaming these landscapes or is just discovering them for the first time, this series is a warm and joyful introduction to the creatures that call this place home.
What to Expect from This Blog
This space will be a place to share the stories behind the books, ideas for exploring nature with kids, printable resources, and a peek behind the scenes at life in the studio. I hope it feels like a warm cup of tea and a good conversation, the kind you have with a friend who also happens to love a good hike through the woods or a wander along the shore.
Thank you for being here at the beginning. It means more than you know.
With warmth,
Elaine
